Venise demain matin

Max et Isa ont été géniaux lors de la dernière semaine, me permettant de rester tout ce temps chez eux. Cela m'a permis de faire du vélo et de visiter des alpes ainsi que de voir les musées. Saviez-vous qu'ils ont une exposition de Darwin ici? Pas mal en fait, surtout que c'était dans le même musée que l'exposition d'archéologie et de géoligie et de bio et etc....

Mais c'est maintenant le temps de se lancer vers Moscou. Patras, Athènes, Istanbul, Sofia, Bucharest, Odessa, Moscou...tout un trajet pour moins de trois semaines hein?

Les joies de Lausanne

C'est assez magnifique ici! Les lacs, les montagnes, la ville, les amis! (Je me suis aussi trouvé un vol de Hong Kong à Bangkok et ensuite 3 jours plus tard jusqu'à Melbourne pour 300$ de moins que prévu! Joie! Du budget!)

Vélo aujourd'hui et/ou demain pour visiter les alentours, les musées des sciences et histoire (vous y voyez peut-être mon intérêt...), les parcs sont particulièrement intéressants...

Je me prépare un trajet couchsurfing et mes billets de traversier et de train pour me rendre d'un coup a Moscou, avec probablement un arrêt pour apprendre le surf en Grèce et visiter la Bulgarie et autres petites merveilles!

To Switzerland!

After a few amazing days in the care of another great family in Rome, I am now spending the night in my now familiar hostel in Firenze in order to reach Lausanne tomorrow evening.

I saw the Sistine Chapel, St-Peter's, more than a thousands great statues and much more in what I must admit IS the most romantic city in the world. Riding through it on a bicycle yesterday only added to the charm.

I met a new friend on the train this afternoon and we will be going to the museum of the history of science in the morning. Later I will take off to Milan and then Lausanne. It should be another interresting day.

What a walk!

Ok, Giulia and I spent the day walking around Roma today, seeing dozens of fountains, statues, monuments, churches, stairs, political buildings and other historical ruins. What. A. Day.

My shoes hurt. But its normal, i just used them for 7 hours kinda straight. As in standing up. You get the joke?

I shall go on the next day to that little chapel that some guy Mike painted like a few years ago and then to an exposition on Leonard da Vinci...kinda cool huh? I learn a few words in Italian, watch football in the evenings, discover a few new alcools and plan my travels a lot. Have to in order to save hundreds of euros and to get there (very good secondary objective I might add).

Ok, off to bed if i want to wake up at a reasonable date.

On part pour Rome

J'ai mon billet en main, mon train part dans 30 minutes, je vais à Rome! J'ai passé la journée d'hier à Faenza, à l'est de Bologna avec mes amies de Londres Ylenia et Francesca (thanks again ladies!). J'y ai d'ailleurs mangé la meilleure glace au monde. Voilà, je l'ai écrit. Je suis présentement de retour à Firenze pour transférer de train, c'est moins cher.

Le voyage en Italie se passe donc bien meme s'il est franchement couteux. Je vais le regretter plus tard je crois. Heureusement, le vélo chinois sera un bon moyen de sauver des sous puisque je compte rester en orient pendant environ 50-60 jours à pédaler un peu partout.

Je compte probablement aller fire un tour de quelque jours en Suisse, Max et Isa ayant probablement besoin que je leur explique un truc ou deux en physique (...cette justifiction pourrait etre complètement fausse...).

Ah! Et on rencontre plein de gens dans les auberges (hostels) avec pleins de conseils. Hier c'est la Chine et la Russie qui ont eu droit au briefing complet! On remerciera Allistair, écossais étudiant en économie pour cela.

Firenze

So I am in Florence. The trip aboard the ship went well and I made a few new american friends studying in England and Wales who spend the day with me yesterday touristing it up in Florence before leaving for Rome this morning.

We saw most of the city yesterday but I was hoping to go inside more places today, like the cathedral, some museums, etc. It is a place of science and art after all. I am to meet with a friend I made in London who is currenlty studying here in Firenze.

I'll go to Bologna tomorow morning meeting with two more friends and then go to Roma to live there with another new London friend and her familly for a few days. Then I have to see if it's possible to go north to switzerland (a fair bit but very doable) or go to Ancona to get a ferry to Greece straight away.

Choices choices, I'll check the trains to see if the north route is possble. I might get the ferry from Venice on my way back if I do that?

Hum...

Italia!

Je pars donc dans quelques heures pour l'Italie, à bord d'un navire qui m'emmène à Livorno! J'irai ensuite à Florence, Bologne et Rome! L'aventure!

J'ai des provisions pour le voyage, ma santé va beaucoup mieux, je suis un peu moins stressé même si mes tentatives de trouver des gens pour m'héberger ont été peu efficaces. Je dois améliorer cela ou tuer un dragon et m'approprier son trésor. Dur choix.

Barcelona again

So I left the comfort of Laia and Aurora's flat in Granada to go back to Barcelona Friday night. Got here on Saturday morning. Sebastien was still ready to go through hosting me again, which is very nice of him. I would not like it to sleep in the streets (beach would be fiiiiiiine on the other hand).

I bought my ferry ticket for Italy and contacted my friends over there, it should be a very nice ten days in that beautiful country (so I've been told). I then will go to Greece from Ancona, it should be another nice trip on a boat.

I feel bad about my "promise" not to take a plane but with the impossibility to work on one it just seems more responsible to take a flight to Australia from China and from Australia to Argentina or Chile afterwards. Still stings, I really liked the environmentally-friendly aspect of the thing. Oh well.

We walked around town all day yesterday and I spend a little more time on the beach this morning. My health is doing better while still ont great but I should be good to go by Tuesday night.

Malaaaaaade!

Ben oui, j´ai probablement pas fait assez attention à l´eau du Maroc et me voilà avec les problèmes de ventre de la mort...ça m`apprendra.

Je suis donc en convalescence à Granada chez mes amies et je me cherche un lift jusqu´à Madrid ou Barcelona dans les prochains jours, idéalement après ma rémission. Mais c´est poche!

Je vais également acheter un billet pour le traversier vers l´Italie et contacter des gens pour le couchsurfing, c´est le moment ou jamais puisque je connais mes dates de déplacement.

En passant, saviez-vous que le pouce est illégal en Espagne? Le Colombien qui m´a ramassé hier m´a bien averti que j´étais chançeux parce que les Espagnols ne le feraient pas souvent. Covoiturage et autobus donc?

Scratch that

I just did quite the research here and it just might be cheaper to take ferries to Spain then Italy then Greece: allowing me to see half a dozen friends I made in London! I was never happier to stand up to adversity! Take THAT "life"! Payback is ALSO a b****!

Ok, I run to the ferry office to get to Spain before it's too dark outside. Things are looking up because I want my cake and eat it too. I sure can do that more often!

J'ai pas envie de prendre la bonne décision

Je quitte en fin d'après-midi, c'est sûr. Mais j'ai deux choix: 1) prendre le traversier normal qui me mênera dans le sud de l'Espagne et ensuite faire du pouce jusqu'à Istanbul mais je rencontre mes amies espagnoles à Granada et je repasse par Barcelona OU 2) je prends le navire pour Gênes (Genova) dans le nord de l'Italie et je cherche un autre navire de là ou continue simplement sur le pouce.

J'ai très envie de revoir mes ami(e)s mais d'un autre côté le bateau est environ 155 piastres, soit environ 110 de plus que le traversier dans le sud de l'Espagne...

J'ai 45 jours pour être à Moscou et j'aimerais sauver le plus de sous possible. La voie du navire est donc la bonne mais si vous saviez à quel point ça me fend le coeur...grrrr.

Toute cette situation est causée par le fait qu'il est impossible de monter à bord d'un navire sans avoir ses papiers de marin. On me l'avait déjà dit mais j'espérais que ce serait différent dans la Méditérannée...

Cela veut également dire que je vais devoir me prendre un vol d'avion de Chine en Australie, à moins qu'une place payée à bord d'un navire soit moins chère encore une fois. Mais faut payer à l'avance...

Enfin, je me donne quelques heures pour me décider mais ça me rend plus nerveux que je ne devrais l'être. J'aimerais que ce soit facile par moment. On vera dans les prochains jours pas vrai?

Joyeuses Pâques

Je suis de retour à Tanger après deux autobus et deux sessions de négociation avec les vendeurs de billets pour un total de 13 heures de voyagement. Pas beaucoup dormi non plus mais le moral est là.

J'ai mes deux nouvelles amies avec moi: Laia et Aurora, deux Espagnoles de Majorqua ici en vacances et qui repartent demain avec le traversier. Nous nous sommes rencontrés à l'auberge à Marrakesh et avons continué de visiter ensemble depuis. Très gentilles et de bonnes compagnes de voyage.

De mon bord, je vais essayer de trouver un endroit sympa pour laver mes vêtements et ensuite aller au port tous les jours à partir de cet après-midi pour rencontrer des capitaines ou officiers e navires et voir s'ils veulent de moi à bord pour aller en Méditérannée...

Sooooooooooo....

I'm in Marrakesh, after another night in the bus from Tanger. Kind of the worst one yet. Marrakesh is not as nice as Tanger yet, but I'm mostly comparing the medinas (old cities) and not the "new stuff". I also have to find an hotel and I think it will be a lot more expensive (around 100 dirams : +- 13 bucks compared to 60 dirams in Tanger).

I will after that go back north to reach a port city and start talking to cargo captains. Hope it'll work.

Wait wait wait, forgot to tell yu how I got to Tanger. I left Barcelona on Tuesday afternoon on a bus that took 17 hours to get me to Malaga. I walked around the city for a while and decided to board a bus for Algerciras later in the afternoon. I then started to meet english people who where on a hitchhicking trip to Marrakesh from England for charity. Lots of them. They explained a little how the ferry worked to Africa and I decided to board from Algerciras on the night itself. It took us a looong time to leave but it was great after that! I'm not seasick by the way.

I met other new friends on the boat itself, including frenchpeople Sylvain and Chrystelle who showed me around the medina of Tanger on the first night. We found an hotel and spent yesterday visiting the city and going to the beach. The beach is dirty by the way: big time.
